Bubbles & Brunch: Firstline Brands Celebrates 40 Years in Nola

During ESSENCE Festival weekend in New Orleans, Firstline Brands brought together influential voices in beauty, business, and entertainment for an unforgettable morning celebrating the culture, history, and future of Black hair. Grind Pretty was proud to serve as an official media partner for the Black HAIRitage Experience: Bubbles & Brunch, with Founder and CEO Mimi Johnson in attendance to celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary.

Hosted at the elegant Hotel Saint Vincent, the experience honored four decades of excellence while highlighting the beauty, resilience, and influence of Black hair through meaningful conversations, community, and celebration.

A Legacy Rooted in Family

The morning also recognized the leadership of Joni Odum, who proudly carries forward the legacy established by her father as CEO of Firstline Brands. Earlier this year, Grind Pretty was honored to recognize Odum at Grind Pretty Fest Houston for her outstanding leadership and contributions to the beauty industry, making this celebration even more special.

Real Conversations on Black Hair, Beauty & Business

The morning featured two engaging panel discussions exploring the beauty, power, and lived experiences of Black hair. Led by Firstline Brands leadership team Lakisha Jackson, Syretta Avent, and Landria Jordan, the conversations brought together an impressive lineup of industry leaders and cultural influencers, including actress Dominique Perry (Diarra From Detroit), Eva Marcille, LeToya Luckett, Helecia Choyce Will, Jessica Argue, along with special guests Danielle LaRoach, Danielle Davis of JPMorgan Chase, and Jalisa Vaughn. Together, they shared candid stories about entrepreneurship, identity, confidence, and the evolving influence of Black beauty in culture and business.

A Celebration Filled with Generosity

Beyond the conversations, guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated experience filled with celebration and generosity. VIP attendees filled their signature Firstline tote bags with an assortment of products from the company's family of brands and received a limited-edition, specially engraved Grind Pretty bonnet, created exclusively for the event as a keepsake commemorating the partnership.

One of the most memorable moments of the morning came when New Orleans beauty entrepreneur Macie Smith was surprised with $500 worth of Firstline products to support her local beauty supply store, demonstrating Firstline's continued commitment to investing in small businesses and the communities they serve.

It was a tribute to the generations of innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, and confidence that have defined Black hair and the women who continue to shape its future.

Grind Pretty is honored to have partnered with Firstline Brands for this meaningful celebration and congratulates the company, Joni Odum, and the entire Firstline family on four decades of empowering generations through beauty, heritage, and community. Here's to the next 40 years.
