About Grind Pretty

Grind Pretty is a media and experiential brand built at the intersection of beauty, business, and culture, created for women who are building boldly, leading in the boardroom, and showing up for themselves all at the same time. We are a community of women in business — corporate professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and leaders who refuse to choose between ambition and authenticity.

Through our digital magazine, multi-city events like Grind Pretty Fest, and impactful brand partnerships spanning beauty, lifestyle, and business, we elevate the stories of women who are breaking barriers, building wealth, and redefining what success looks like. Grind Pretty is your home for connection, strategy, sisterhood, and the unapologetic pursuit of the life you're building.

Behind The Grind

Mia "Mimi" Johnson is a celebrity makeup artist, media founder, and communications leader whose career is the definition of grinding pretty.

A first-generation college graduate and Clark Atlanta University alumna, Mimi arrived in Atlanta on a full academic scholarship and built a name in beauty entirely on sweat equity. No connections, no blueprint, just strategy and consistency. She became one of the most sought-after makeup artists in the industry, working on hit television shows including Real Housewives of Atlanta and Love & Hip Hop, national campaigns including a Super Bowl commercial, and celebrity glam for Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth Carter, Angela Simmons, Halle Bailey, and more. Her work has been featured in Essence, InStyle, Hype Hair, and beyond, and she served as Creative Director for Hype Hair magazine.

In 2014, Mimi founded The Glamatory, a beauty studio, vegan makeup line, and artist agency that became a hub for creativity and community in Atlanta. When COVID forced the doors to close, she pivoted with purpose, channeling her client relationships, influence, and vision into Grind Pretty, the platform she had been building since 2017.

Today, Grind Pretty is a national media and experiential brand featuring a digital magazine, Grind Pretty Fest (a multi-city women's empowerment festival), and Grind For Good, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has awarded over $50,000 in grants to women in business. Mimi also serves as Communications and Public Relations Manager at the T.D. Jakes Foundation, leading campaigns focused on STEAM, workforce development, and economic mobility.

A proud autism mom to her son Channing, Mimi is dedicated to building the kind of visibility, opportunity, and community she had to create for herself, for every woman still becoming who she's meant to be.
